A meniscal tear refers to the tearing of the C-shaped cartilage discs, called menisci, located between the thighbone (femur) and the shinbone (tibia) in the knee joint. Meniscal tears can occur due to sudden twisting or rotational movements of the knee, often seen in sports activities. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, locking or catching sensations, difficulty fully extending or flexing the knee, and a feeling of instability.
